Apple’s much-anticipated AI feature, Apple Intelligence, will not launch alongside the new iPhone 16 series in September as planned. According to recent reports, the rollout of Apple Intelligence has been delayed. It will instead be included in a software update scheduled for October. This update will be part of iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, which are set to be released to developers in beta form this week.
Reason of delay
Apple Intelligence, which was introduced at WWDC in June, represents a significant leap in AI capabilities for Apple’s devices. However, unforeseen challenges have pushed back its release. Chief among these challenges are compliance issues related to the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). Apple has expressed concerns that the DMA’s interoperability requirements could compromise its products’ integrity and potentially risk user privacy and data security. As a result, features like Phone Mirroring, SharePlay Screen, and Apple Intelligence will not be available to EU users in 2024.
Device compatibility
Despite the delay, Apple Intelligence will still be available on a range of devices once the update is rolled out. The service will support all new devices powered by the A17 and M series chips. This includes older models such as the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, as well as all iPad Pro tablets launched after April 2021 and all iPad Air tablets released after March 2022. This broad compatibility ensures that a significant number of Apple users will be able to benefit from the new AI features once they are released​.
